Positive Negative Neutral Advice
The university has a great reputation as farAverageEconomics
The university has a great reputation as far as academics are concerned, however as far as night life goes it is absolutely horrible. If you want to live a fun college life and are a male, GMU might not be the place for you. Girls are welcome to all the parties, and the parties are a lot of fun, but fraternities are strange about letting guys in to their parties, and if no guys are there besides the fag fraternity guys, what girls wanna be there?? (catch my point?) If the frats would loosen up with their closed door policy and the people would open up to everyone it would be a great school. Being the second most populated university in Virginia, it is easy to becomea statistic and get lost among the student body. If you go or are planning to go here remember to be friendly to everyone, a friend is better than a stranger. Academics are actually quite challenging which came as a surprise to me because it has a bad reputation among high school students due to the fact that it is so close to home. If you go into Mason with a bad attitude your going to hate it there but if you suck up the fact that your at mason you would realize that it is better than other places, it just wont seem that way unless you overcome the negativity and open up to it. The girls are hot and the guys are fags, so if your a nice guy you can get a lot of girls. George Mason could be a very fun college if these minor things are corrected; people throwing parties should let anyone and everyone in, teachers start relating to students on a more personal level, and kids start viewing their school in a more positive manor. Its not that bad, you gotta adapt to it just like any other school. One more thing, fuck those faggots who go to UVA and try to tell you its better than mason cause that school blows, the people are all stuck up and have no personalities what-so-ever. Thats one of the best things about mason, everybody is real, whether or not you like it they are not stuck up fags. Hope this helps.

Question
My experience with George Mason University has beenKinesiology
My experience with George Mason University has been very positive. I majored in Health, Fitness, and Recreation Resources. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the courses & found the professors very willing to help whenever I had a question. Mason did a great job in preparing me for the Masters of Public Health program I am currently in.

On a side note, Mason is pretty much a commuter school but that doesn't mean that there aren't things to do. There are tons of clubs, activities, intramural sports, and athletic events to be involved in. As with any school, you get out what you put into it.I feel very fortunate to have attended Mason during it's transition from a "backup" school to a "first choice" school. Every year I attended, I could see Mason getting better and better. Mason is constantly adding programs, buildings, and technology to the classrooms that make Mason very competitive with the other great schools in VA & DC (like Virginia Tech, James Madison University, George Washington University, etc) so check it out!

Question
I only went to GMU for two semesters;BrightUndecided
I only went to GMU for two semesters; nevertheless, those two semesters were enough to convince me not to return. GMU is primarily a commuter school whose students walk around talking into their cell phones instead of talking to the people around them. Furthermore, the GMU housing that IS available is absolutely terrible. Instead of a regular dorm room, I was placed in a study room at the end of a hall. Four other girls were in this room, which was partitioned off with furniture in order to house all of us. When conflicts soon arose, I managed to move into another room for the spring semester. This room had a faulty door lock. Maintenance did nothing about it.I moved a broken dresser drawer set out into the hallway, in order to allow for more space in the room. Though I requested the drawer set be taken away and repaired/put elsewhere--and my request was met with "that's fine"-- I was later nagged and insulted by housing personnel for moving this broken dresser out of the dorm.

The housing horror story had yet to end, however. I put in my request for sophomore-year housing, assuming GMU wouldn't give me a raw deal two years in a row. What happened? I was put on the housing waiting list. Soon thereafter, I was taken off the housing waiting list without notice or permission. I was far from alone in this situation, though. Later that month, the school sent an official letter to housing wait-listed students, telling them to seek housing elsewhere, and that the housing deposits would be refunded shortly. Hah. Only after MONTHS of inquiring and persistent phone calls did I get my money back. It was never mailed to me; I had to go to the school to pick it up on my own initiative. The commuter atmosphere and (inadequate) housing at GMU make for a dissatisfying undergraduate experience. Academic merits of the school notwithstanding, GMU is terrible. Don't go to GMU if you're looking for a classic college experience.
