I am not sure about some of theQuite Bright
I am not sure about some of the other comments - but I will be entering my second semester as an Accounting/Finance student and I can say Mason is a great place to go to school. The faculty in the School of Management are outstanding and they provide plenty of real world projects to complete in addition to the normal coursework.

The school is undergoing a tremendous amount of development and construction - however, that has resulted in a host of new top of the line facilities including new dorms, dining facilities, gyms, work-out and recreational facilities.

Mason's location also is a plus because there is an almost unlimited opportunity for internships and co-ops given all the business and companies in the NOVA area.

Mason offers plenty of diversions on campus; there are plenty of bars, clubs, and restaurants in Old Fairfax city and even more easily accessible by metro in Washington DC. If you are interested and want to make sure Mason is right for you - actually visit the place and don't depend soley on the write-ups on the internet.

Question
During my transfer process, Mason representatives told meQuite Bright
During my transfer process, Mason representatives told me transfers are guaranteed on-campus housing. A couple months later, I received my acceptance letter only to find out that "Mason cannot accommodate all on-campus housing requests". George Mason straight up lied to me. I later found out this is apparently an ongoing problem as 40-60% of on-housing campus transfer requests are denied every year.

In short, George Mason lied to me simply because they wanted my 70$ application fee. If they are going to blatantly lie to prospective students, imagine actually BEING a student. I also heard Mason parking is terrible and can't accommodate all students (big surprise here).

CAUTION to all prospective students: Everyone thinks Mason is a gateway school into the Govt. and Govt. related Washington jobs. Have you ever heard of Georgetown? American University? The George Washington University? Those schools are in D.C. too and they are a lot better than Mason. Mason only gets the leftovers.

Between a Georgetown double-major who speaks 3 languages and a regular George Mason student, who do you think is going to get the Govt. job??? Mason is the school that EVERYONE got into. Remember that. In Washington, if people found out you went to Mason, their enthusiasm for you dies.

Washington D.C. rule of thumb:

-Georgetown students are held in high-esteem.
-George Washington students are often negatively stereotyped as close-minded rich kids but certain programs are held in very high esteem.

-American University students are lower on the totem pole than GTown and GW, but great faculty and Government departments are very respected in Washington.

-Mason is dead last.
Employer: "So you went to Georgetown I presume?"
Applicant: "No, sir."
Employer: "Ah, I see. You must be a George Washington Man eh?"
Applicant: "No, Sir. Not quite."
Employer: "American University? I was under the impression you attended school in the city?"
Applicant: "Well, almost. I graduated from George Mason."
Employer: "Oh my lord! I forgot I had a dentist appointment....right now. But I'll be in touch."
