Basically all the other comments are pretty similar to what I have to say. If you're looking to go somewhere that will challenge you academically, you could do a lot worse than the U of R. Especially if you're looking to get into the sciences. However, I am an English major with a minor in Studio Arts. Had I known I would end up choosing these degree programs, I would have definitely gone elsewhere. There are definitely some really excellent English professors, but I would much prefer a more expansive list of courses, and not cross-listed courses, but straight English courses. The art program is painfully, PAINFULLY underfunded and thus offers very little to the budding artist. Socially, if you're looking for a place to meet and hook up with new people every weekend, you'll find yourself disappointed after the first year upon realizing you pretty much know or recognize everyone on campus. But there are plenty of opportunities to get wasted on the weekends (nerds still like their alcohol) if you just ask around. Don't be surprised, however, if you're wasted one Saturday night and wandering around the library, to discover a good percentage of the U of R population knee deep in their studies. People here REALLY like to work. Slackers, though they exist, are few and far between on this brick and ivy campus.
