I love the school, but do not buy a meal plan, live off campus, and you will survive college and party on your own time. Plenty of parties. Careful what you sign. Geosciences here is 1 in the country and a year here will show you why. Beautiful and close to the mountains for camping and climbing and hiking. Car is not needed but is nice.

Here is the most honest review you will get from an out of state student. I am from Denver, Colorado, and the weather is great down here. It averages around 65+ degrees. I am currently a first semester freshman living on campus in the dorm called "Likins." First off, tuition for out of state students is INSANE. I am currently paying 21,000 per semester to attend. But thats what financial aid is for right. Ok, second, the living situation. Likins is the newest dorm on campus and the rooms are easily big enough for 2 people to stay inside. Most students get around campus by walking or biking. The university if VERY bike friendly. I MUST WARN THOSE WHO ARE COMING FROM OUT OF STATE: Tucson is an UGLY city, it is run down, beat up, I feel very unsafe walking around off campus. The 3 mile by 2 mile "oasis" of the campus is the only area I feel safe. If you go any farther north than Speedway blvd or farther south than 6th street, you run into run down houses, gang territory, bums, etc. Ive been here for 4 months and ive only been off campus 5 times because of how sketchy the city is. Next, you guys probably want to know about the sports. UA's football team is on the rise, the new coach lead us to a bowl game this year. The Zona Zoo student section is insane and fun to be part of. The basketball team is one of the best on the west coast. The rec center offers lots of intramurals as well. Speaking of the rec center, as part of your tuition, you get admission to the rec center. The rec center is VERY nice and modern, lots of weights and machines. The teachers are realitevly accessible and the student body is usually pretty open to make new friends. The GIRLS are the hottest around especially in sorrorities! Guys are juiced up and most are "bros" rocking tank tops, but there are also plenty of normal guys as well. But after all that I am actually thinking about transferring back up to Colorado purely because Tucson is such a BORING, UGLY, SKETCHY city.

UA is a G-D awful place to be. I wish I had done more research before being suckered into squandering 3 yrs and tens of thousands of $$$ Type in
'NY Times Declining by degrees'
UA is considered the epitome of a large state institution where intellectual vitality goes to die
I came to UA right out of HS. My grades were awful (1.8 GPA) but my 1880 SAT automatically qualified. The application is that of a community college: just personal info, no essay or statement of purpose. They just want your cash.
Tucson: A miserable hellishly hot city. Diesel exhaust permeates and you will get sunburnt just walking between class. No where to walk/bike, without a car you are toast. Arizona as a state is a nightmare to live in full time.
Academics: Absurdly large classes where the professor does not care.
Social: If you are into frats/sororities than bingo. Otherwise prepare for keystone in dimly lit cramped apartmentsOverall: AVOID go to community college instead
