The faculty at SCAD are really incredible andSuper Brilliant
The faculty at SCAD are really incredible and dedicated. They prepare students to be successful in the harsh reality of the art and design world. I have nothing but respect for SCAD faculty and the students who work so hard.

However; the faculty are ridiculously underpaid, and are expected to waste their weekend time talking highschoolers into applying. The faculty are not supported in any way to do research or be on the cutting edge, although most of them are the best in their fields and could really be contributing more if they didn't have to waste time on mandatory meetings, admissions work, and overload classes.

The administration looks down their noses at the faculty. Staff has job security, but faculty is up for reassignment each year. So the staff treats faculty like what they are: temporary employees. Lying to faculty seems like a favorite pasttime of upper administration.

Some of the specific majors do not have required professional accreditation, so do your research about your major before you commit your time and money.

Scad makes it difficult for faculty to leave once they've been used and abused because there is a $5000 penalty for breaking their contract (I've heard this is unenforcable - but who has the money to take them to court?)

I for one, will not be signing a contract for next year. The salary they offered me is a joke, I could make 25% more at any community college. I could make 35% more at a real university, where I would be treated with the respect my education and experience should receive. I am very popular with students and consistently get excellent reviews. I love my students. But I am tired of being used, abused, and lied to. ENOUGH!I would be leery of sending my student to a school that treats their faculty like temporary contract employees. To understand this issue, read the sanctions from the American Association of University Professors here. Yes it's old, but it still applies.
