Transferring out of Drexel was the best decisionBrightBiology
Transferring out of Drexel was the best decision I ever made! I didn't realize (and people there don't realize) what its like to go to a REAL college, with semesters, and fun, and not being overrun by crazy cut-throat students. I found my first two "terms" at Drexel unbearable... I was in lecture halls with professors and TAs that never taught a damn thing, I was an A student getting Cs and C-s in entry-level classes. I had a problem with a roommate that used to go through my clothes at night and smoke pot and housing's advice was to "work it out". Finally spring term I had some decent classes, but it wasn't enough to get me to stay. If you enjoy flushing money down the toilet and doing a "Biology co-op" testing pool water then by all means go to this school. If you want an actual college experience then go elsewhere.Occasionally I will visit friends there and everyone is so miserable and can't wait to get out. TRANSFER! its not worth it...go to Penn State or Temple and save yourself the money and actually enjoy some of college. Trust me, its not worth the aggravation.

Question
The hell I have gone through at thisQuite BrightBiology
The hell I have gone through at this place for the past three years has been insane.
The administration is filled with people who have no idea what they are doing and don't care to figure it out. Do not believe it when they say you can afford to go here. You can't. Do not go to the financial aid or student account offices if you are having trouble finding funds to cover your bill. You can talk to the same person again and again and they have no idea who you are and spit out the same, useless answers every time they talk to you. They don't care to help you and will more likely put a hold on your account than do their job. God help you if you actually have a financial hold. Unless you have the money you owe in hand, you don't exist. I'm actually transferring at the beginning of my senior year (of all times!) because I can't afford to go here and no one cares enough to help. And I couldn't be happier.

The biology program is awful. You don't learn much. Either classes are really easy and no effort is needed, or they are extremely hard and you have no idea what you are doing. Most of the professors and TAs in the science programs can't speak English that well. The biology professors are very rude to students. Some of the TAs are even worse (Like Heather, the most vile person I have ever met). Trying to get in touch with them in hard enough as it is, but it's even worse when you are treated like an idiot when you get one-on-one time. Students in the program are way too competitive for their own good. College is a game to them. They will do anything to get to the top. And if they aren't cliquey and have their own little group of friends, they have zero social skills.

The campus looks like trash because they are constantly renovating. Half the new buildings are ugly as sin and the exact opposite of the older buildings, almost to an extreme level. To make it worse, all the old buildings are like moldy caves about to collapse at any second. Especially Stratton. It's embarrassing.

The only good thing I can say about this school is that they have a great Education program. Take a teaching class or two if you can. You can even complete their program online! It's a shame it has taken me this long to figure out the negatives highly outweigh the positives. I wasted so much time I'll never get back.

Question
I don't know what to think.Super BrilliantBiology
I don't know what to think. (By the way, I labeled myself as super brilliant figuring that more people would be interested in reading my post. It may make me seem arrogant or pretentious, but so be it. I want to have people get a solid view of what Drexel is like from a freshman student)

The negative aspects-
The amount of money spent to come here is way too high. I'll be frank. I recieved over twenty thousand dollars in scholarship money and was still hesitant to come to the university with the amount it would cost. Lucky my parents are covering half. I am halfway through my freshman year and may not have been on coop yet, but I still feel insecure about paying these debts once I am out of the university.

The next thing that bothers me is the living conditions. I'm not talking about the dorms. I'm talking about the urban conditions. This includes massive amounts of smoking, no peaceful scenery or relaxing parks, tons of traffic, and litter everywhere. Granted, the University does its best to clean the place up, but it is of little avail.

This University is NOT a place to be for undecided majors. I originally came into the university undecided, and it has been a very difficult process finding my major. To be honest, I felt like I was forced into one. There was so much stress to find a major before coop starts that I may not have made the ideal decision. The quarter system moves so fast that it doesn't take much to fall behind.

The sports teams and clubs are not easy to join. I am part of the tennis club, and it took hell to become one of the members. There are only two outdoor courts unless one walks all the way down to Penn's courts. So it goes.

The positive aspects-
The University seems to get a bad rap about its faculty. But I disagree. At first, some of them seem unapproachable. And some of them are. But a majority of the professors and faculty I have interacted with have been helpful and student focused. It just takes a little time to get to know the person. For example, my current biology professor calls students by name in a class of over 200. My career advisor was very supportive of me and my academic counselor is laid back and aproachable.

The facilities are state of the art. If anything, this is where the money is going. The gym is absolutely brilliant including a ton of literally brand new equipment. The armory has brand new multi use courts, the dining center has choices, and there are multiple places to eat on campus. The new residence halls are beautiful and security is fairly tight on campus. ID cards are necessary for virtually everything.

The friends I have made on my floor are very original people and it is not too difficult to find people who have vibrant personalities. Many people may seem depressed or lifeless on the outside, but a little bit of talking and they usually turn out to be really nice people.

The academics will be what you make of them. If you put the time and effort in, you will get the same out. There seem to be a mix of very difficult and very easy classes depending on the professor.

Lastly, transportation is abundant. It is the city, o there is everything from bus transportation to septa or amtrak train services not to mention the subway. So I'm fairly neutral. There are times I think I made the right choice coming here and at other times I feel that I may be faring better elsewhere. I'm keeping my options open for other colleges, but I want to see what the coop program is like first.
