Major: Video/Media (This Major's Salary over time)
I graduated from SOU with a BA in video production in 2012. I now live in Los Angeles and work in the enterainment industry and have some perspective on my experience there. The program WILL give you the solid fundamentals of video production that are universal. They teach Final Cut Pro (now I think they also have Adobe Premier) they give you the fundamentals of camera operating, sound, lighting, even writing for the screen and you can check out equipment when you want (provided it's available)But it is up to you to make the most of these tools, that's where the real learning happens. Alot of things about working on a professional set they wont teach you, but neither will any of the other schools. I've met many kids who went to USC, UCLA, LMU, the "ivy leagues" of film schools and the knowledge base was comparable, but still far away from working in a professional. That type of stuff you can only learn by working on sets and interning on films is something I highly recommend. And for the record, yes I personally know of several SOU alumns who are "making it" in LA, but these people are very motivated and have to the means to live in LA, which is no cake walk.Put simply, you get what you put into it. Howard Schreiber is a great instructor and has the patience to personally help you with you projects. The best advice I could give you is create an impressive demo reel (you'll need one when applying for production jobs) and if you can own any equipment such as a camera or editing software, it will make finding work easier.
