I figured I'd be perfectly honest.Quite BrightUndecided
I figured I'd be perfectly honest. Berkeley is not for everyone. If you come here, expect to work your ass off and then some. People are here to get an education, not make friends. Socially, it's fairly dead unless you enjoy just sitting around and drinking. There is very little in the way of just going to the movies and leaving town because it is impossible to find a place to park your car, so very few people bring cars and those who do have rides are often very popular. The professors here ranged from open-minded and accepting to so close minded, the only way to get an A is to be a complete sychophant. Again, girls are fairly ugly. The guys? Well, I'm a guy myself, so I can't really comment on that. I was formerly a business major, and the people were some of the unfriendliest I've ever met. Even more so than the EECS and engineering majors. My advice is to take everything at Berkeley with a grain of salt and try to make the best of it. The degree is worth it if you can survive without a social life for about 4-5 years, because the Greek system and social interaction is discouraged by the huge amount of work given. The Greek System itself, is being turned into a joke by the University. Constant moratoriums prevent any party from being held, and the Campus is pretty dead on football days. Everyone goes to the game and then goes home to study some more. Also, watch out because the general political attitude on the campus borders on radical. It can be somewhat irritating if you are even a liberal centrist like myself. But anyway, that's all I gotta say, so I'm out. Good luck and have fun selecting a college!

Question
The campus is veryBrightComputer Science
The campus is very diverse, the faculty are very distinguished. Berkeley is very liberal, so if you're uncomfortable with that then maybe you should think twice about attending.

Question
I'm a 1st year at Berkeley and I'mQuite BrightBiology
I'm a 1st year at Berkeley and I'm liking it a lot. I got to say, I don't have much to add about Berkeley because the comments above pretty much summarize Berkeley accurately. The comments about the girls being so bad is sort of exaggerated...I'd like to say they aren't THAT bad. In fact, there are a lot of cute ones. If you're not into the party scene, Berkeley can get sort of boring at times, but that has a lot to do with not having a car as a freshman. SF is nearby and there is plenty to do there. If you're thinking of going to Berkeley, do it. You won't regret it. I have yet to meet someone I don't like at Berkeley, and I'm a pretty conservative person. I truly get the sense that Berkeley people are above the arrogance and self-consciousness associated with private university kids...just about everyone seems laid back and eager to have fun and make thing enjoyable for others while getting a good education at the same time.
