Question
Syracuse University is a terriable place to goQuite BrightPolitical Science
Syracuse University is a terriable place to go to school. I have never to a place with more uniformed and unintelligent people in my life. The students seemingly all come from sheltered suburban backgrounds. When they are challenged to think of ideas outside the scope of their suburban ideals, it results in some of the most ignorant and racist statements ever heard in a classroom. The diversity here is non-existant and the division of economic classes is readily apparent in the daily campus life and during off hours at local bars. Campus bars are divided by Class, Race, and Greek affiliation, something many students fail to notice. If you are looking for a college with stimulating academics, a good city, and a fun campus life look somewhere else. This is a lower tier research school with an overblown sense of status because of the Newhouse communications school. It is not suprizing that a major that many other schools consider to be a joke is Syracuse's major selling point. If you have a chance to go to a liberal arts college or an art school or a major university in a real city then go! Go somewhere and be challenged to actually think in and out the classroom setting because it won't happen at Syracuse University.

Question
Syracuse University is a terrible choice for anySuper BrilliantUndecided
Syracuse University is a terrible choice for any student seeking a passionate, intellectual student body. The level of apathy here is amazing; most students' eyes glaze over at the mention of anything outside MTV or People magazine. It is astonishing how Syracuse students manage to leap to new heights of ignorance at every opportunity. Just about everyone here (even my friends, loyal as they are) has no knowledge or interest in the outside world and is entirely absorbed in partying and hooking up. Even the nerds are fairly stupid and offer no challenging or insightful opinions (Even while drunk I debated circles around them). The campus is ugly, cement block housing from the 1960's that is reminiscent of faceless gray office complexes from Communist Russia. There is no ambition to be found here and it seems unlikely that the current students will achieve much with their lives.

My only escape from this pathetic cross-section of suburban mediocrity has been to drown myself in alcohol and drugs. I've been partying my ass off (usually in the vast fraternity system but sometimes at house parties) but even that gets boring fast. It is impossible to conduct an intellectual conversation to any degree because every single student is about as knowledgable as a dead cow.

The academics here are pathetic, with professors showing no interest in making their classes interactive or interesting in any way. The students also show no liveliness and never participate in class discussions, preferring to stare at their desks or read magazines. This has led to a lot of looooonnng, awkward silences whenever a professor or TA has asked a question. In fact, after the first few weeks I pretty much stopped going to classes and showed up only for the tests, still pulling off a 3.6 GPA.

In short, there is absolutely NO reason for any studnet with at least half a brain to come to this school for the following reasons:

1. The student body is astonishingly dumb, dull, and willfully ignorant with no passionate or diverse students.

2. Everyone is ridiculously uncool and has poor social skills.
3. The campus is hideously ugly.
4. The classes involve boring, repetitive work that is completely unchallenging.
5. The parties get old fast and you meet a lot of infuriatingly stupid, shallow people.
6. The school's reputation isn't worth crap and the degree is about as good as toilet paper considering the exorbitant price you're paying for it.7. If you're from NYC like me, don't even think about it. It's like being stuck with tourists from Wyoming for 4 years.
