There was so much more available at SyracuseOther
There was so much more available at Syracuse than I had the courage to try. As a student on financial aid (full tuition) I tended to choose less challenging courses because I was afraid to lower my GPA and lose my scholarship. When I got to graduate school, I had a lot of catching up to do, as a result! This is more a reflection on myself than on Syracuse, which had more to offer than I was willing to attempt.

Question
Syracuse has impressed me from the first dayQuite BrightCommunications
Syracuse has impressed me from the first day it popped up on my college search list. I'm from the Midwest, and I was impressed with how diverse the campus is. Diverse-- not in that calico skin color way, but diverse as in there are so many different lifestyles there, and they are all active. Though there is a predominant amount of rich kids, I have found that they act independently sometimes in finding their niche. The University doesn't tailor itself simply to one kind of student. The speakers and the extracurriculars truly offer something for everyone. There is an atmosphere of competitiveness, but it's not unhealthy because the University is so big, and I think that people have come to the realization that it's not just about the grades. Confession: some of the professors are arrogant, especially in the realm of communications. But I've found an equal amount of caring faculty who will review your essays and stay after class to clarify anything you didn't understand. Be confident and honest, and there's not much else you can do. When dealing with arrogance, just keep in mind that life itself isn't fair. It's a good lesson to treasure once the semester is over. Syracuse, the city, sucks. The mall is good, but plan on staying on campus. Supposedly, the campus is unsafe at night, but I think it's a lot of hype. There is an escort system, and you'll most likely be with friends anyways. And on a minor note, the vegetarian food is great. The best thing about Syracuse is the resources available. Beyond the professors and alumni, I really feel like Syracuse is the type of university that will try to accomodate you. Syracuse is the type of institution that you can discover yourself at. If you go there with an open mind and a will to learn, you are going to have the time of your life.

Question
SU is a wonderful school and I wouldn'tQuite BrightPublic Policy
SU is a wonderful school and I wouldn't trade my experiences there for anything. SU has fantastic programs in public affairs, communications, political science, and engineering. My professors challenge me to think constantly and are available for help when I need it. Although Syracuse leads the country in snow, walking across campus is never more than 15 minutes and as long as a student has a good coat and gloves, he or she is fine. Of course, having the National Champion Orangemen to root for is a fantastic bonus and SU leads the country in basketball attendance. Dorm living in quite good and the students are friendly, even though racially, students seem to self-segregate. Drinking is prevalent, although no one pressures a student to drink if he or she doesn't want to. SU also revamped its Honors Program and is engaged in attracting talented students, and is a rewarding experience. There are clubs and organizations for every taste, and it's not difficult for a student to find his or her niche.
