This school is the most politically corrupted academicAverageBiology
This school is the most politically corrupted academic institution on the face of the earth. There is so much red tape and political crap going on in the departments that it makes me want to puke. The students here are complete morons, despite their high ACT scores, but most of all, they are complete snobs. The faculty are great, if you like self-absorbed, snobbish intellects. Yeah, don't go here, it sucks.

Question
Many people say Madison is too big, butBrightBiology
Many people say Madison is too big, but you get used to it really really fast. I like that you are not controlled by others. You can do whatever you want. There are so many different things to do as well. Lots of parties, many clubs, concerts, different people, etc. Madison is definetly NOT a boring place. Most of the professors are pretty good. They all know their field very well. If the professor isn't that great, the TA's are usually very helpful. Other students are also helpful when you don't understand material. You are more than just a number, unless you let yourself become one. Smaller schools baby you along the way, at Madison, you are treated like an adult. No one makes you go to class or get involved, but if you want to it's not hard to do. No school is perfect, but if you are open-minded and motivated Madison is the school for you.

Question
I felt really prepared for a career asBiology
I felt really prepared for a career as a grad student. UW-Madison is a wonderful place to study for basic science research. It has a wonderful biochemistry dept. and I was better prepared for grad school than many of my peers due to emphasis on research and lab courses. Madison was a large school with many opportunitites of which I was grateful to have, but they don't just present themselves to you. You really have to be driven to succeed in a school setting like this. No one is going to remind you to study or do your homework. There is a multitude of resources that are availble to you to help you through both academic, health, and personal issues, however, in order to take advantage of them, the student has to take the initiative.
