BG is a good, not great, school.Math
BG is a good, not great, school. It was just about perfect for my situation. I attended public schools in Toledo, Ohio, was an above-average but not great student, and was not sure what I wanted to do with my life. I went to BG on scholarship and really thrived there and went on to a successful career.

The best thing about BG is that it offers a very wide range of majors, but isn't an academic pressure-cooker. Students are able to try a lot of different things without fear of flunking out. (There are technical courses but no engineering program, which is a drawback for geeks like me.) The few really good students got a lot of attention from the faculty, who often assigned special projects or formed clubs to keep the best students interested.

Brilliant, highly-motivated students should probably go somewhere else; the level of challenge just isn't very high, because BG is not hard to get into. Also, it helps if you're into Greek life or just goofing off and drinking in general; the social life was a bit lacking otherwise. The town of Bowling Green is small and somewhat dull. The sports programs are good, and Division I football, basketball, and hockey often bring big-name opponents to campus. In general, BG is a good school if you're a reasonably serious student, want a good eduction, are fairly sociable, and don't want a lot of academic pressure. Among the public universities in Ohio, I'd say it's slightly above average.

Question
Watkins Film School is a scam.Fine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc
Watkins Film School is a scam. They might be accredited, but under a magnifying glass that can easily be crumbled. The level of education there is of a high school media class. Faculty has been the same for the last 12 years. No diversity in faculty, teaching, opinion and goals. Filled with passive, scared, incompetent, uninterested and shallow faculty. None of these so called instructors have a teaching degree. And sadly, they all lack the natural, god giving talents of teaching. Three out of five full time faculty members went to the same grad school. They shot 2 to 3 films then decided to teach this art form to others. Neither one of the 5, except one- who is not one of the 3-is a working artist. He is a writer who wouldn't even know how to turn a camera on let alone know what film was. There have been no changes in the level of teachings at Watkins in the past 10 years. The faculty members do not welcome challenges and change. They are set with their old ways and are very stubborn. The winner of this award goes to Van Flesher. Van is a smart-ass, passive, non-confrontational, boring, stuck up and untalented person. Van Flesher had an affair with a student years ago and move to California. So, due to the lack of interest, excitement and energy from the chair and the school as a whole, Watkins once again failed to find a decent working cinematographer who also has the skills of teaching to hire. But instead they brought back Van Flesher to continue the damage he has been doing to the curriculum, school and the students' future. Van Flesher totally lacks the ability to teach. Van Flesher would rather talk during the whole class time. To put it nicely, Van Flesher is a pest and a thorn to Watkins Film School. He acts and looks like a person who is waiting to be put out of his misery. And it’s about time Watkins helped him out with that. Why should students spend their time and money for an incompetent, skill-less, uninterested instructor? Why should students sacrifice their future because the Film Department at Watkins never had and still doesn't have the balls to change things, fire people or simply raise the bar? They instead change everything else around this pest and a poor excuse for an instructor. Watkins Film School has demonstrated over and over again that they have always missed the ball, they have always refused or lack the talent and interest to be involved with the film community in town, have always refused change, have never replaced an incompetent instructor, and have diminished the idea of hope and change for better. It's a shocking reality that Watkins Film School has lasted this long. It's all do to marketing lies and targeting young innocent kids right out of high school. But 95% of all the students regret ever coming to Watkins by their second or third year and are confronted with the cruel fact that it is too late to turn back the time. So they are forced to continue a program which is not helping them at all, while they spend the rest of it complaining about everything. Watkins College of Art & Design by its choice of procedures and poor choices of selecting deans, have taught students over and over again that complaining, or simply giving suggestions about the education they are paying so much money for has always been useless. So the reality is that the people in the administration offices including the president and the dean know the LEAST about the film department. On top of that, unfortunately, they are not smart enough to ask and communicate with students while they attend the school and more importantly after they graduate. Our president is a great guy, but unfortunately his personal religion is based on academia. He judges and treats people based on their degrees and not wisdom, knowledge, experience, common sense and all the other tools available to a human being. In conclusion, Watkins Film School is a very sad school with little or next to nothing chances of change, hope, excitement and positive energy. Unfortunately the lack of knowledge of the majority of the film graduates directly reflects the lack of knowledge, encouragement, excitement and competent of the film faculty and the school's administration as a whole. Please do more research and look else where. Thank you!
