The social life here isn't that great, but that's because most of the students are so focused on acting. The school has no music program, but you CAN minor in Musical Theatre. Since the school has no music faculty, you take voice lessons off campus, with a private voice teacher in NYC. The disadvantage to this is that the ones in NYC are so damn expensive! But that's because they're so good. There's this one girl who has a MT minor and takes lessons w/ Shirley Callaway (the mom of Liz Callaway and Ann Hampton Callaway). The tuition covers only part of what you have to pay for private lessons, so you have to pay a fee of atleast $50 per lesson. It's obviously excellent instruction, though. Your dance lessons you can either take at the college (it has a kick-ass dance program), or at Steps/Broadway Dance Center.So far, in my years here, I have learned that although most of the good actors here are airheads, they are very smart. Verrrry smart. So I learned that if you want to be a good actor, you should be smart, therefore you should be taking other classes. The biggest mistake that you can make is go to a school that is strictly for the Arts. I, myself, even considered doing that, but DON'T DO IT. It is much better to go to a college/university--where you can take other classes--for acting because it will keep you open-minded and strengthen your imagination, which is what you need to be successful. It's also an advantage, if you're a theatre major, to be in NYC. Believe it or not, to be successful in any performing arts field, it is much more about WHO you know than it is about WHAT you know. You can go to another program at a college somewhere else that is equally is good, but you probably wouldn't make the connections there. If you want to be an actor, let alone an actor that gets jobs, you should go to NYC.
