Johnson C. Smith University is located in the heart of Charlotte, North Carolina which is a huge plus. Smith is becoming more of a diverse, urban premier university, which has its pros and cons. As an HBCU, Johnson C. Smith University should keep its Historical Black College traditional and legacy because that is what the institution is for. I have always intended upon receiving a degree from a Historically Black College, one where the professors are supportive and accountable. Upon entering college I would be greeted by my fellow classmates, who would be welcoming and inviting. Although challenged by coursework inside and outside of class, I am able to find peace in the numerous leadership and service opportunities offered on campus. These opportunities extend from serving our immediate community to inspire other communities worldwide. All the components of my vision exist at JCSU where students are able to receive a stellar education and are challenged to their fullest potential. Smith students are intelligent, powerful, and persuasive and are expected to make an impact on the community. I believe the resources provided would broaden my horizons and prepare for a successful career in the criminal justice field. To attend a liberal arts institution like Johnson C. Smith University is more than the building of a post secondary education, it is a stepping-stone to my destiny of service and leadership. I believe that experiencing the "Smith way", as well as its exemplary curriculum; I will be better prepared to make change in the world. The buildings are trying to be structured in a much more modernized way, but Smith could actually do better by expanding the building on campus to make our institution look more so like a university, rather than a high school; but then again, Smith is a small liberal arts institution. On another note, the dorm life is much better than my previous institution. Smith dorms are great, but LISTON HALL, SANDERS HALL and GREENFIELD HALL - all can use a renovation. These are the most crappiest dorms ever, and they are really historical. Campus life is actually great and at the same time, not so great. We have plentiful events. But then again, some of the events are a monies worth and students are too cheap to attend $2-$5 dollar events. Nevertheless, every colleges campus life could use improvement, Smith should get the organizations more involved on campus, on the yard and everything. I think that if campus life was more thrilled, we'll attract more students. In between classes, there should be events happening on the yard. I loved the basketball games like no other, but when there is no basketball games, there should definitely be more going on. Smith is light on events, meaning they do not provide events every single day because as an institution of higher education, they are strongly focused on EDUCATING AND ACADEMIA!
