It's a nice place, most of the time.AverageBiology
It's a nice place, most of the time. Stupid screaming drunken people get kind of annoying but they aren't quite as common as you would think. The campus is quite nice and maintained well, however the campus pond sometimes looks less than desirable. The courses are usually pretty good, but make sure you evaluate the course during add/drop if you're not sure if you want to take it. Before deciding to attend make sure you're prepared to deal with an administration that must be hiding in a bunker somewhere far away, as well as some loud nights, but UMass is a great school overall.

Question
If you are not from Massachusetts I dontBrightCommunications
If you are not from Massachusetts I dont suggest spending close to 23,000 to come to UMASS, period because you are not spending your money wisely. If you are from Mass and can get lots of scholoarships then it might be worth it if you like being near your family. Personally I am disgusted, disheartend and disgruntled with UMass. Lots of DISing going on here. Bad food, bad housing, bad parking, bad politics, and bad teachers that dont want to be here. Academically I feel that it is pretty easy but you can be challenged intellectually if you look around for the right classes and prof. (if you can even get into a class). The only saving grace is that if you really look around you can meet some really cool people. But first you have to get past the nerds and the drunken frat/sor people. After two years I am finally transfering. As an out of stater I feel that spending a little more on my education would be worth it than just "settling". Also the "Valley" can get a bit boring with not much to do that isnt repetitive. However, the town of Amherst is quite nice and lots of yummy restaurants can be found in town. Just be prepared to spend lots of money on delivery and snacks as the dining commons is not for people with sensitive stomachs.

Question
Many Times I have heard the adage, “CollegeBrightGeography and Geosciences
Many Times I have heard the adage, “College is what you make of it” and this is what you need to follow at UMASS-Amherst. You take what you want out of your education, and this university provides the resources for you to accomplish that. There are many annoyances with this college, as there are with any. Most colleges have irritating administrations and bureaucratic red tape to get through, and quite frankly the budget cuts supplied by our state government every year isn’t helping. If you tend to see things on a negative view, you are totally going to be disappointed when you go out to the real world. There are always options, and people to help you with them. Professors in my department, albeit EXTREMELY busy, are never too busy to help you with a problem or even chat awhile, because they know that students come first. If you’re unhappy with where you live, you can always move somewhere else; each dormitory area is suited to people’s personality types. If you are quiet and a loner, you might prefer Sylvan to Southwest, where more extroverted partiers live in a cityscape. If you hate the type of people that go to this campus, you may prefer transferring to the Midwest, where people are considered friendlier than New Englanders. If you dislike the looks of the school, please realize this is a state funded (or lack thereof) school and aesthetics, although pretty at Harvard or Yale, play a VERY minor part of your education. As with any college, you should visit the place you wish to go, and if possible ask current students questions. If you have any questions about attending this university, I suggest the e-mail option by this or any of the other people whom have allowed you to contact them.
